In this little longer presentation, we would like to take you on a Deep Dive into where we see the future of aquaculture heading and explain why we see a huge opportunity in this area.
Significant changes are expected to occur over the coming 25 years.
Those changes are across a range of areas, often interlinked, sometimes compounding: the forces influencing our future include climate change, population growth, food security, technological advancements, logistics, trade, and nutrition – together with social and political changes (which we have not considered in detail in our analysis).
To better understand where we might be heading in the future, we have used scenario analysis methods based on Cambrian Future's FLP-IT model to create a set of extreme scenarios that offer first insights.
This involved researching existing models and trends and then developing our own scenarios, specifically for the seafood supply chain.
The absolute shortest version is:
In 2050 - Where will key animal-derived nutrients for 7 billion aging people in urban areas come from with a much-reduced carbon footprint compared to today?
But there is a lot to unpack here, and we did not have time to write it up in a paper (or package it in easy-to-digest social media posts) - but the context and a more detailed summary is in the 11min Deep Dive video here:
